This provides an engaging and stimulating introduction to the world of travel
and tourism giving you the opportunity to develop knowledge and technical skills in a
practical learning environment. You will explore some of the key areas within the sector,
including accommodation, tourism development and promotion, transport and visitor
attractions.

You will investigate the importance of the travel and tourism sector to the
UK, and investigate different types of customer and UK destinations. You will also have
the opportunity to study international travel and tourism.

The UK Travel and Tourism Sector

In this unit you will:

  • understand the UK travel and tourism sector and its importance to the UK economy
  • know about the industries, and key organisations, within the travel and tourism sector, their roles and interrelationships
  • understand the role of consumer technology in the travel and tourism sector

The UK Travel and Tourism Sector

In this unit you will:

  • know UK travel and tourism destinations and gateways
  • investigate the appeal of UK tourism destinations for different types of visitors
  • plan UK holidays to meet the needs of different visitors.

The Travel and Tourism Customer Experience

In this unit you will:

  • investigate travel and tourism customer service
  • explore the needs and expectations of different types of customer in the travel and tourism sector
  • understand the importance of customer service to travel and tourism organisations.

 

International Travel and Tourism Destinations

In this unit you will:

  • know the major international travel and tourism destinations and gateways
  • investigate the appeal of international travel and tourism destinations to different types of visitor
  • be able to plan international travel to meet the needs of visitors

 

 

Assessment

Exam board: Edexcel

The course is a BTEC qualification and is the equivalent of a GCSE.

It comprises 4 units and is 75% coursework:

  • 1 Unit is externally assessed (25%) through an examination with a range of multiple choice, short and longer answer questions
  • 3 Units are internally assessed (75%) and involves the completion of a wide range of different coursework assignment
