Business

why study business?

Students will develop sector-specific knowledge and skills in a practical learning environment. The main focus is on the knowledge, understanding and skills required to research plan, pitch and review an enterprise idea that includes:

Development of key skills in planning an enterprise activity, including market research, planning, carrying out financial transactions, communication and problem-solving.

Knowledge that underpins effective use of skills, such as the features and characteristics of enterprises and entrepreneurs, and the internal and external factors that can affect the performance of an enterprise.

Attitudes and ways of working that are considered most important for enterprise, including monitoring and most reflecting on the performance of an enterprise idea and own use of skills.

This course is suitable for anyone, with a genuine interest in business and enterprise. Everything around us is shaped by the world of business, whether it is a local shop to a global brand. This course is especially suited those who are interested in how ideas become a business, how to start a business, how to promote and market a business and how to run and finance a business.

what will i study in business?

This qualification is the same size and level as a GCSE and is aimed at everyone who wants to find out more about enterprise and entrepreneurship. Pupils learn about the ideas, mindsets and successes of enterprises and entrepreneurs. They learn about planning, finance, including cash flows, and how to take a product to market. Pupils will develop an idea for a small enterprise of your own and plan how best to set it up and fund it. They will work with others in order to run a small enterprise, using their knowledge and building their entrepreneurial skills.

how will i study in business?

During the course pupils will also develop important skills are useful in any industry, such as problem solving, decision making, innovation, project management, team working and communication.

Assessment

BTEC Level 2 Technical Award in Enterprise is assessed by three components:

Component 1: Exploring Enterprises.

Component 2: Planning for and pitching an Enterprise Activity.

The first two components are assessed via internal pieces of coursework, worth 30% each.

Component 3: Promotion and finance for enterprise

This is an external assessment set by the exam board. It is worth 40% of the course, carries 60 marks and has a duration of 2 hours.

Careers

The qualification will lend itself to working in all industries. It will also support students in understanding the basics of running your own company. BTec in Enterprise will allow students to move on to a range of vocational courses or A-levels. The skills acquired will support students into further education and beyond into the world of work. Studying Business Enterprise provides a fantastic base that can be used to excel in the workplace should a student pursue an apprenticeship route.
